3/11 AM

We left Mike agitated last night. He was experiencing what we are told is a pretty typical response to a long stay in the ICU. He would have bolted from the unit if he wasn't restrained from doing so.

We didn't know what to expect when we returned this morning. We found Mike calm and collected. His nurse got him up and in a seated position in a hospital chair. He continued on to have a busy morning -- physical therapy, occupational therapy, two teams of doctors, a stroke team member -- and he is tired. From my observations, he looks to have some problems with speaking (complicated by his long stay on the ventilator) and some vision issues. It's very early yet and he is on some serious medications so we are still not seeing his baseline.

Suffice it to say, today was dramatically better than yesterday. His PT threatened to get him up and walking tomorrow. That will be an amazing sight.

Ah physios.
We threaten - it's all we have in our ammo.
He'll do great!

Gee, for this non- doctor type, the fact that he needed to be restrained from bolting out of the joint sounds like a pretty good sign to me... now would seem a great time to be a fighter. He just needs to remember to use his power for good, not evil!

More big hugs to you all as the healing work begins,

Eve

Dear Caitlin,
What good news. I can see him giving orders to everyone soon. They say doctors are the worst patients. Can't wait to hear that reported.
Hope everyone at the hospital continues to have a great sense humor.
Keep yourself well and remember to eat! The rumor mill says you're very thin.
Much love,
Judie and Mel

Caitlin, My husband and I are friends of Wendy and John and have met you and Michael. We have been reading the blog daily and are so happy you are doing it. According to Wendy, Michael has enough spit and vinegar in him to conquer this. We send our love and prayers to all of you.
Warmest regards, Sandy and John Blue

HI ALL
I was happy that I was in the room when the Physio and OT were working with Mike. I wish that Caitlin had seen these great accomplishmets. Of course the PT in me watched every move. I felt that he performed well during their assessment.
The therapists were surprised and delighted with his response. We received the biggest smile when they said that he might go for a walk in the hall tomorrow.
He may be thinking of escape!!!
Of course he is weak but he ..
seemed very pleased with his ability to perform as requested.
When he is a little more alert he should do even better. His meds seem to be making him sleepy
Thanks for all of your support and love.
